karl halliday is a belfast-born photographer, curator and writer living and working in naarm/melbourne.
inspired as a child foraging through his parent’s archive of pictures recollecting stories of their youth, karl discovered in photography an opportunity to come to terms with the nature of subjective experience through exploring the formative role visual language plays in modelling our memory, identity and perception of reality.
karl's photographic works have been exhibited in group shows across australia, with his debut solo exhibition 'in passing' forthcoming at the perth centre for photography in may 2022. in addition to his artistic projects, karl's portfolio includes private commissions, commercial photography and fashion editorials.
karl’s curatorial practice leverages his interests in contemporary photography, conceptual art, and performance theory with a focus on participatory and pedagogical approaches to exhibition making. karl currently serves as chair and as an artistic director at blindside gallery. karl holds a masters degree in art curatorship from the university of melbourne.
